Description:

The SUU PREP program seeks enthusiastic and organized Classroom Assistants to support STEM-focused classes and activities for upcoming 7th-9th grade students. Classroom Assistants will work closely with teachers to ensure a positive and productive learning environment, assisting in the delivery of three 70-minute classes Monday–Thursday. Classroom Assistants will also provide supervision during Career Awareness Seminars, special activities, and Friday Field Trips.

Key responsibilities include Managing student attendance, distributing materials, setting up and maintaining classrooms, and providing individual support to students.

Classroom Assistants will supervise students during Career Awareness Seminars, special activities, and field trips, fostering engagement and enforcing behavior standards.

Additionally, they will collaborate with teachers on lesson plans, assist with grading and assessments, and contribute to curriculum delivery.

Classroom Assistants are expected to attend staff meetings, provide administrative support, and help ensure smooth transitions between activities while promoting an inclusive and encouraging environment.

Responsibilities Take daily attendance and ensure all students are checked in.

Distribute name badges and keep track of students throughout the day.

Track homework assignments and assist students who may be falling behind.

Tutor students in-class and in study hall, providing one-on-one support as needed.

Assist instructors with lesson facilitation, including helping with Tech Time lessons, mentoring students, and supporting their academic growth.

Engage with students during class, encourage college and career exploration, and discuss future academic opportunities.

Retrieve, manage, and return classroom materials such as laptops and Chromebooks.

Grade and input assignments, quizzes, and tests, returning these to students.

Support classroom management, including helping lead study sessions and small group discussions as requested by the teacher.

Maintain appropriate behavior standards, including dress code adherence and respect for rules.

Supervise students during Career Speaker events, Tech Tuesdays, and field trips to ensure attentiveness and appropriate engagement.

Monitor lunch areas, ensure safe and respectful behavior, and oversee the tutoring table to encourage students to seek help with assignments.

Proactively lead students on field trips, coordinating with other assistants to ensure safety, manage logistics, and foster positive interactions.

Participate in class activities, including Tech Time and additional program events.

Update the homework tracker daily and communicate with students, teachers, and staff regarding academic progress, assignment completion, and necessary interventions.

Attend daily staff meetings, contribute to discussions, and complete required surveys and evaluations.

Look for ways to innovate and improve student experiences within the program.

Act as a mentor, encouraging student engagement, personal growth, and academic success.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for STEM, creative disciplines, and working with 7th-9th grade students.
  • Prior classroom or mentoring experience is preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers and volunteers.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful learning environment.
